Overview
CyberQ has been
helping organizations to implement CMM and CMMI since 1997 and has
worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, all over
the world. CyberQ has developed a methodology to implement CMMI,
which has been used by over 150 organizations. The methodology is
outlined below.
Capability Maturity
Model® Integration (CMMI) is a process improvement approach that
provides organizations with the essential elements of effective
processes. It can be used to guide process improvement across a
project, a division, or an entire organization. CMMI helps
integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set
process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for
quality processes etc.
More now than ever,
companies want to deliver products better, faster, and cheaper. At
the same time, in the high-technology environment that all
organizations have found themselves building more and more complex
products. Today, a single company usually does not develop all the
components that compose a product.
Many organizations
have also found themselves in the software business. Organizations
that were not typically software companies-such as financial
institutions, car manufacturers, airplane manufacturers, and
insurance companies-find that much of their business relies on
software. Software is often what differentiates them from their
competitors. The problems these organizations address today
involve both software and systems engineering. In essence, these
organizations are product developers that need to manage an
integrated approach to their software and systems engineering as
part of reaching their business objectives.
There are a no. of
process improvement models, standards methodologies available to
chose from. SEI's Capability Maturity Model® for Software (SW-CMM®),
which focuses on software processes, and the EIA's Systems
Engineering Capability Model (SECM), which focuses systems
engineering processes. However the large multi product
organizations find it difficult to implement these models
separately, both in terms of compatibility and
institutionalization.
Capability Maturity
Model® Integration (CMMI®) has emerged as a model that can
address this issue by providing a set of practices that have
components of all the disciplines that a large product development
company can require. CMMI consists of best practices that address
product development and maintenance. It addresses practices that
cover the product's life cycle from conception through delivery
and maintenance. There is an emphasis on both systems engineering
and software engineering and the integration necessary to build
and maintain the total product. There are also process areas,
which are specifically for Integrated Product and Process
Development (IPPD) and Supplier Sourcing (SS).
